Pre-Teen Room Reveal

I'm so happy that the weekend is upon us and I'm finally sharing Santiago's finished room. I'm so ready to move on from this project and start decorating for Halloween. I can't stop obsessing about our front porch area, but I digress...

This room was definitely a challenge, and I'm hoping Santiago will keep it clean in the near and distant future so I won't feel like punching him in the face when I walk in.

Lets take a look at the horrifying before, shall we. If you missed the original post and all the before photos you can catch up here.

Just as the sky is blue, my son is obsessed with shoes.  However, they fit right in with the aesthetic of his room so I suppose his obsession is not totally irrelevant when it comes to styling his room. We are really happy with the way it all came together even after hours of frustration, uncertainty, and unplanned additions!

The walls, doors, dresser, and desk were all painted. On the accent wall I used black contact paper and cut the lines into different lengths, which was extremely tedious, but saved us a significant amount of money due to the absurd cost of wall covering.

The new bookshelf fits really well and doesn't take up too much space, but holds a lot of books so that took care of two issues in itself.

I added the black trim to the white roman shades for a custom look.

On the desk I used an oil based sharpie and wrote a few words. I also included something that my Grandfather would chant when my brother and I were kids. It was a verse from a Johnny Cash song, we thought it was so funny and my grandpa loved to repeat it. When I was painting the desk the verse popped into my head and I felt it was appropriate since the desk belonged to him. To be honest, I haven't thought about that song in quite some time. I think Gramps must have been serenading me when I was painting away.

The art we already owned, but needed a hanging refresh.

It's amazing what paint and throwing out a bunch of crap can do. I'm relieved it's done and now I can move on to another project. I'm also going to share the process on our sideboard next week. I have received a lot of questions on it.

Looking forward to our favorite upcoming month!
